FRONT DESK ASSISTANT – COMMUNITY SERVICES

Part-Time, 19 Hours Per Week | $17.60- $20.25 per hour

The Town of Cohasset is seeking a friendly, organized, and service-oriented individual to join the Community Services Department as a Front Desk Assistant at Willcutt Commons.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director of Elder Affairs, the Front Desk Assistant serves as a primary point of contact at Willcutt Commons, warmly greeting visitors, residents, and staff while providing essential administrative support. This position plays an important role in maintaining the welcoming environment and supporting the daily operations and overall success of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

Answer phone calls, check voicemail, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to the appropriate staff members.
Manage appointment scheduling for activities and services offered at the center.
Maintain an organized front desk area and ensure materials are well-stocked.
Perform administrative tasks, including filing, data entry, and managing correspondence.
Offer tours of the building to new visitors.
Assist with opening procedures, including coffee setup.
Regularly check the main living room to maintain cleanliness and appearance.
Manage daily patron check-ins and activity sign-ins at the front desk kiosk using the My Senior Center (MSC) scan card system, including checking individuals in for classes, lunch, and other programs.
Collect and process patron payments in accordance with established procedures.
Ensure new patrons complete the required registration paperwork.
Issue replacement My Senior Center scan cards for lost or misplaced cards.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be organized, dependable, and customer-service oriented, with the ability to create a welcoming environment for visitors and residents. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment are important to success in this position.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least six months of experience in an office setting.
Proficiency in data entry and computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to maintain a professional, courteous, and engaging demeanor when interacting with older adults and staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in a senior services or human services environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a dynamic office setting.

Compensation & Benefits:

This is a part-time position classified as Grade PT-2, with an hourly rate of $17.60- $20.25 per hour.

The position is scheduled for 19 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8:30 AM – 1:15 PM.

This position is responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation to seniors for medical appointments, Elder Affairs programs, and other scheduled needs. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent customer service, strong communication skills, and a commitment to supporting the independence and well-being of Cohasset's senior residents.

Reporting to the Director of Elder Affairs, the Van Driver provides transportation services to seniors throughout the community while ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being. The position also supports daily Elder Affairs operations through deliveries, errands, and general assistance. Responsibilities include maintaining vehicle safety, assisting passengers with mobility needs, and providing courteous and professional service. Flexibility to work irregular hours when necessary is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide safe and reliable transportation for seniors to and from Elder Affairs programs, medical appointments, and other scheduled destinations.
Assist passengers with entering and exiting vehicles, including the safe operation of wheelchair lifts when necessary.
Retrieve and deliver food pantry items, meals, and essential supplies to seniors and the Elder Affairs Department.
Support department operations by completing local errands and obtaining necessary supplies.
Conduct routine vehicle inspections, monitor fuel levels, and coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs as needed.
Follow all traffic laws, safety procedures, and departmental policies while maintaining a professional and respectful environment for passengers.

Minimum Qualifications:

Valid Massachusetts Class D driver's license with an excellent driving record.
Knowledge of safe driving practices, traffic laws, and regulations.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with seniors and the public.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, respond appropriately to emergencies, and adapt to changing schedules and circumstances.
Ability and willingness to obtain wheelchair lift certification and participate in required driver safety training.
Ability to assist passengers with mobility needs and lift and carry items weighing approximately 25–30 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience providing transportation services, particularly for seniors or individuals with mobility challenges.
Current wheelchair lift certification or completion of specialized driver safety training.
Experience working with older adults or in a community service environment.

This full-time, union position performs equipment operation and manual work supporting the construction, maintenance, and repair of Town roads, infrastructure, and public facilities.

The successful candidate will work safely, communicate effectively, and collaborate with the Highway team and other Public Works divisions.

Key Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment, including front-end loaders, backhoes, sweepers, and other vehicles and machinery used in public works projects.
Perform highway construction, maintenance, and repair work, including manual labor and the use of pneumatic and hand tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Employees hired without a CDL must obtain it within one year of their hire date. CDL costs are eligible for reimbursement after three years of employment.
Valid 2B, 4E, and 4G Hoisting Engineer’s Licenses, which may be obtained after hire.
Valid DOT medical card, which may be obtained after hire.

Schedule & Compensation

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week union position, with availability for emergency response required. The position is classified as Grade PW1 without a CDL or Grade PW2 with a CDL.

Hourly rate: PW1 ($26.72 - $31.93), PW2 ($29.38 - $35.11)

Position Overview:

The Heavy Equipment Operator performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in support of public works operations, with a primary focus on solid waste and recycling activities at the RTF. Recycling and transfer facility employees are preferred to hold 2B, 4E, and 4G hoisting engineer’s licenses.

Assist in starting/ stopping machinery as needed using stop and start buttons

Perform work assignments in a prompt, efficient and safe manner.

50% Public Communications

Greet visitors entering the facility

Explain transfer station procedures to the general public; monitor materials to prohibit disposal of prohibited items.

Always represent the town in a professional manner.

Education: A High School Diploma or equivalent.

Training, Skills, Licenses, Knowledge and/or Experience:

Must have at least six (6) months of experience in a customer service environment. Experience in cash handling is preferred. Key Responsibilities:

Food Establishment Inspections

• Conduct routine, follow-up, complaint, and pre-operational inspections of all food establishments, trucks, farmers markets, residential and commercial kitchens in accordance with the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code (105 CMR 590.000).

• Document inspection findings and issue corrective actions as necessary.

• Investigate foodborne illness complaints and respond to consumer concerns.

Housing Inspections

• Perform inspections of residential properties for compliance with the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code (105 CMR 410.000).
